Karen Tweedale, our secretary, known by many of you within the local community and currently serving as the Mayor of Daventry for 2024-25, is preparing for an exciting challenge! She will be participating in the Hope on a Rope Abseiling Challenge, alongside her husband Mark and a fantastic team of 8 other brave volunteers, all facing this challenge together.
WHEN: On Saturday, October 12, 2024, the team will be making their descent down the world’s largest abseil tower at the National Lift Tower in Northampton. They will take on an exhilarating 400ft drop to raise essential funds for two incredibly deserving causes.
WHY… The team’s mission is to rally support for Karen’s mayoral charities: Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service (NDAS) and Service Six, both of which provide transformative services to local families and the community.
Interestingly, Karen has a well-known fear of heights! Her husband recently tricked her into going on a high ride at a fair , where she reportedly kept her eyes tightly shut for most of the experience. This not the first time Karen has taken on her fear of heights to fundraising so it raises the question—what motivates her to take on such a daunting challenge?
We asked Karen why and she said “When our young people and their families are struggling daily this is but a small gesture. Yes I am pretty scared but facing my fear and knowing how any money raised will help local families is what pushes me. I am so so thankful to Mark and all my team mates who are joining me in this challenge”
PLEASE HELP! We think the the team are both incredibly brave and a little adventurous for stepping up to fundraise for Karen’s mayoral charities. If you feel inspired, please consider visiting the JustGiving page to make a donation and support these vital local causes.
